Project Description
A1 Roofing’s KangaRoof completed a shingle roof repair in Baltimore, MD, rebuilding a section of roofing on a brick home. The work included opening the repair area, installing new plywood decking, and restoring the asphalt shingle covering.
The project focused on a defined section of one roof slope beside a brick chimney. Much of the surrounding roofing remained in place while our crew worked on the exposed area and connected the repaired section back into the existing shingle courses.
A Localized Repair Beside the Chimney
The repair area extended across several rows of shingles below the roof ridge. Working within an existing roof meant paying attention to the boundaries of the repair as well as the surface being rebuilt. The new roofing needed to meet the surrounding shingles along the upper, lower, and side edges of the opened section.
This project also involved work beneath the visible roof covering. New plywood was installed before the section received its finished shingle surface.
Rebuilding the Roof Section
Opening the Area to Access the Decking
Our crew removed roofing materials within the work area to expose the wood deck. This provided access to the surface beneath the shingles and room to carry out the decking work. The surrounding shingle courses defined the area where the repaired section would reconnect with the existing roof.
Installing New Plywood Decking
New plywood panels were fitted across the opened section. This stage created a continuous wood surface in the repair area before the roofing above it was restored. Addressing the decking was a central part of the job, with the new panels forming the base for the finished roof covering.
Restoring the Asphalt Shingle Covering
With the decking work completed, the repair area was covered with asphalt shingles that followed the roof’s existing three-tab pattern. The rows continued across the repaired section and aligned with the surrounding courses.
The finished shingles have a similar gray appearance to the existing roof. Some variation between new and weathered shingles is visible, but the repaired section follows the same overall layout and blends into the roof when viewed from the ground.
The Completed Shingle Roof Repair
The completed work restored shingle coverage across the area that had been opened for repair. The exposed decking was covered, and the roof once again had a continuous shingle surface beside the chimney.
This Baltimore project shows the work involved in a localized repair that includes the roof deck as well as the shingles. The installation progressed from opening the work area to fitting new plywood and completing the shingle covering, while retaining the surrounding roofing.
