Project Description
A property in Columbia, Maryland, required a new flat roofing system. A1 Roofing’s KangaRoof prepared the broad low-slope roof area, installed mechanically fastened roofing boards, and completed detailed work around roof penetrations, perimeter edges, and parapet transitions.
The gallery documents several important stages of the flat roof replacement, including preparation of the roof surface and installation of the supporting board layer.
Project Overview
- Location: Columbia, MD
- Service performed: Flat roof replacement
- Roof type: Flat or low-slope roof
- Visible work: Mechanically fastened roof boards, penetration detailing, roof-edge preparation, and parapet work
- Property type: Not specified in the original project information
Preparing the Low-Slope Roof Surface
Before the new roofing assembly could be completed, the crew prepared the existing flat roof area.
Loose material and debris were cleared from the working surface, and the crew organized the roof for the installation of new rigid roofing boards. Careful preparation was especially important around pipe penetrations, raised roof sections, edges, and adjoining vertical surfaces.
Installing the Mechanically Fastened Roof Boards
Large rigid roofing boards were positioned across the low-slope roof in aligned rows.
The crew secured the boards with roofing fasteners and round metal plates distributed throughout the surface. This fastening pattern held the panels in place and created a continuous working surface for the remaining layers of the flat roofing system.
The photographs show the crew positioning the boards, fastening them across the roof, and cleaning the surface as the work progressed.
Working Around Roof Penetrations and Perimeter Edges
The roof included several areas that required more detailed preparation than the open field of the roof.
A1 Roofing’s KangaRoof fitted the roofing boards around pipe penetrations and completed the board installation near the roof perimeter. The crew also worked along wood nailers and other edge conditions that would form part of the completed flat roof assembly.
These transitions are important because penetrations, edges, and changes in roof height must be integrated with the surrounding roofing system rather than treated as separate areas.
Completing the Parapet Details
The gallery also shows work along a raised parapet area.
Protective material was applied across the parapet transition and adjoining vertical surface. This helped complete the connection between the horizontal roof area and the raised perimeter section.
The documented project scope included:
- Preparing the existing low-slope roof.
- Positioning rigid roofing boards across the surface.
- Mechanically securing the boards with fasteners and metal plates.
- Fitting the materials around roof penetrations.
- Preparing roof edges and perimeter transitions.
- Completing detailing along the parapet area.
- Finishing the new flat roofing installation.
The Completed Flat Roof Project
This Columbia project required more than installing a visible exterior roofing layer. The crew first created a properly prepared and mechanically secured base while accounting for penetrations, perimeter edges, and parapet transitions.
A1 Roofing’s KangaRoof completed the documented preparation and detail work as part of the property’s new flat roofing system.
